Sporting activity, and its exercise by the system's stakeholders, largely constitutes an activity of undeniable economic impact. Within its scope of action, there is recognition of an effective sports labour relationship, understood in a broad sense, i.e., beyond the employment relationship, regulated within the context of true legal pluralism. This entails the direct or indirect application of national public norms, transnational private statutes and regulations, and International Conventions and Treaties to ensure the protection of sports workers, who in certain cases face some clandestinity in the regulatory labour context. In this context, the need to ensure the sustainability of the sports system emerges primarily through its integrity, especially in confronting illicit behaviours characterized as abuse, harassment, violence, and other practices that, in the sports environment, directly impact the athlete's fundamental right to practice their professional activity in an appropriate and safe environment, in line with international guidelines on the subject, in the pursuit of Decent Work. In addition to the direct or indirect application of international norms in the sports context, the sustainability of the system and the guarantee of its integrity absolutely demand urgent dialogue and cooperation between the public and private sectors, aiming for greater protection of the worker, the pillar of sustainable development in sports and society.
